Diary of the Principal Keeper, 1868-1884.

A record of the inmate population was kept by the principal keeper. Each daily entry gives the total of the inmates, and, for earlier years only, the number received and discharged. There are also brief notes on events at the prison each day, including the principal keeper's inspection visits, disciplinary incidents, escapes, deaths, construction and repairs, etc. Later entries list the names of men received or discharged.
